School and smart classroom solutions
Whole-campus work, done in the school holidays so nothing disrupts teaching. Cabling and WiFi that survives a full hall of devices, and filtering the teachers can actually manage.
Built around the school calendar
A school cannot have contractors drilling through a corridor wall during a lesson, and it cannot have the network down on an examination day. So the schedule drives the work rather than the other way round.
We plan campus projects around the holiday windows: survey during term, agree the design well in advance, order the equipment so it is on site before the break starts, and install during the holidays. What has to happen in term time is scheduled for after hours and staged so that no block loses connectivity for more than a planned window.
That requires a design signed off early, which is why we push for the survey long before the work.
WiFi that survives a full hall
School WiFi fails in a specific and predictable way: it works fine when the IT coordinator tests it, and collapses when thirty-five tablets in one classroom all try to load the same video at once. Density, not coverage, is the problem.
Designing for density means more access points than a coverage map suggests, placed per classroom rather than per corridor, with channels planned so neighbouring rooms do not interfere, and enough backhaul capacity behind them. An access point serving three classrooms from a hallway will show full bars and deliver nothing usable.
We design for the worst realistic case — a full hall, or every class online at the same time — and we test it under load rather than on an empty campus.
Classrooms, labs and the rest of the campus
- Interactive panels and projectors installed at a usable height, with the cabling concealed and the control simple enough that a teacher can start a lesson without a technician.
- Computer labs built and imaged so every machine boots identically each morning, and a broken installation is fixed by a re-image rather than a visit.
- Content filtering that the school can administer itself — the sites that need blocking change constantly, and a system only the contractor can adjust is a system nobody adjusts.
- CCTV and PA across the campus, positioned for entrances, corridors and assembly areas.
- Campus backbone — fibre between blocks, cabinets in each building, documented and labelled.
Handover the school can actually use
Schools change IT coordinators. The teacher who understood the system moves on, and the documentation is whatever was left in a drawer.
So we hand over properly: as-built drawings, labelled cabinets, a record of what is plugged in where, credentials in writing, and a walk-through with whoever will be looking after it. Where a system needs day-to-day administration — the filtering, the lab images, the user accounts — we train staff to do it rather than making the school dependent on a call-out.
Common questions
Can you work during the school holidays?
That is how we prefer to run campus projects. We survey during term, agree the design in advance, and install during the break so teaching is not disrupted. It requires the design to be signed off early.
Will the WiFi handle a full class of tablets?
If it is designed for density rather than coverage, yes. That means access points per classroom rather than per corridor, planned channels and enough backhaul. We test under load rather than on an empty campus.
Can the school manage the content filtering itself?
Yes, and we would insist on it. The sites that need blocking change constantly. A filter only the contractor can adjust is a filter that stops being adjusted.
Can you maintain a computer lab we already have?
Yes. We can re-image existing machines to a consistent build, upgrade what is worth upgrading, and document what is there.
Do you supply interactive panels and projectors?
Yes, supplied and installed with the cabling concealed and the controls kept simple enough for a teacher to use without support.
